REDCLIFFE PRECINCT DEVELOPMENT
1366. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the minister representing the
Minister for Planning:
I refer to the vision plan and
implementation strategy for Redcliffe precinct development area 6 produced by
the City of Belmont in 2016, of which very little progress on statutory reforms
has been made.
(1) Is the minister aware of the obstructions being
placed by the Minister for Environment and regulators at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation
regarding the drainage necessary to facilitate the plan?
(2) Why did the
director general of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation only
attend three out of 22 meetings of the Western Australian Planning Commission
in 2022–23?
(3) How will the
Cook Labor government deliver sensible urban density around urban rail stations
if it does not address the lack of coordination across portfolios in the state?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Planning.
(1)–(3) Any
questions regarding the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation should
be directed to the relevant minister.
Directors general prioritise attendance at WAPC meetings when there are
significant issues for consideration in their portfolios. When directors
general are unable to attend in person, they will generally seek to send a person
in their place.
Planning
has significantly moved on since the publishing of the vision plan document in
2016 by the City of Belmont. An improvement plan is already in place
over the area, and an improvement scheme is currently
being prepared in consultation with various state government agencies,
including the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
