(1) The Department of Environment and Conservation does not support the burning of tyres in the open, due to uncontrolled release of emissions. Using tyres as a fuel in a controlled industrial process would require assessment on a case by case basis.
(2) The Department is not aware of an application from Cockburn Cement Limited seeking permission to burn waste tyres at its plant in Munster.
