Insofar as Main Roads is concerned
(1) Yes. Main Roads undertook mid-week traffic volume counts in February 2008.
(2) The count indicated traffic volumes of around 29 098 vehicles per day east of the Reid Highway on ramp.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) Estimated peak hour flows remain in the order of 1 400 vehicles per hour which is the capacity of this section of road. However, as traffic is growing, the duration of the 'peak' period will also grow.
(5) Yes.
(6) East bound 12 175 vehicles per day, west bound 16 923 vehicles per day.
(7)-(11)As indicated in reply to Question 4448 (9 May 2007) this section of the Highway is operating at capacity and is experiencing congestion during peak periods. The Traffic Operations Centre at Main Roads constantly monitors the road network and adjusts traffic signals to ensure delays are kept to a minimum.
Long term planning has provision for a dual carriageway between Erindale Road and the Freeway, including widening of the existing bridge over the Freeway to provide two lanes east bound and two lanes westbound. The project is currently unfunded and will be considered together with many other high priority projects across the State as part of a future Budget development process.
