Direct data relating to measurement of fugitive emissions is not available and estimates are provided. Gas lost to the atmosphere from pipelines is typically accounted for under the Commonwealth National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Framework.
Unmeasured use (used to power ancillary equipment on pipelines) and losses to the atmosphere for major gas transmission pipelines are estimated at between 0.1 per cent and 0.6 per cent of gas delivered.
The average unmeasured use and losses to the atmosphere for gas distribution systems is 1.8 per cent of gas delivered.
