Minister, I draw your attention to the way in which a local siren and hazard system supplier SIRENCO has been treated by the WA Police and I ask: (a) why is it that a local Maddington based company that has been supplying sirens to emergency fleet vehicles for 29 years, has been overlooked in the provision of this equipment to WAPOL vehicles; (b) If the answer to (a) above is because WAPOL vehicles are supplied fully fitted out from the Eastern States, why cant a local company be offered the right to supply and install sirens and light bars; (c) If the answer to (a) above is because the sirens are provided to WAPOL vehicles by Hazard Systems of Tasmania, (now owned by the US ECCO Group) I ask again why isn’t an established local company like Sirenco given the opportunity to supply this equipment; (d) how can the State Government and WAPOL ensure taxpayers are getting value for money when a simple lens for a lightbar cost $55.00 (prior to the purchase of Hazard Systems by ECCO) and now the same lens is supplied by Hazard costs $134.00; and (e) why is it that the Barnett Government is not supporting local manufacturers like Sirenco whilst at the same time it is lobbying the Federal Government for defence contracts for Western Australia?
