I refer to the Lancelin dunes which the government claims can coexist as a tourism destination and a mining lease, and I ask: (a) Has the government set aside funds to compensate the Lancelin community for losses if the tourism industry is impacted beyond repair with the ongoing mining of limesand?

(a) The mining of limesand has occurred in the Lancelin area for over 40 years and is an essential input used by WA growers and agricultural sector to support production.
The WA Government recognises the importance of Lancelin as a tourist, recreation and holiday destination. This has been acknowledged through Tourism WA’s current ‘Drive the Dream’ campaign, which promotes Lancelin to domestic and international tourism markets. I note that the Member does not support this campaign.
Mining, tourism and recreational activities have co-existed in Lancelin for over 40 years, and the WA Government will continue to support the sustainability of all sectors.
