I refer to laws for commercial vehicles which are registered in states other than Western Australia but reside in, and operate on a commercial basis, in this state, and I ask: (a) how many of said vehicles are operating on a commercial basis in Western Australia: (i) hire cars; (ii) prime movers; (iii) large mobile cranes; (iv) small mobile cranes; (v) loaders; and (vi) motor homes; (b) what is the cost of registering each of the following vehicles on a commercial basis in Western Australia: (i) hire cars; (ii) prime movers; (iii) large mobile cranes; (iv) small mobile cranes; (v) loaders; and (vi) motor homes; and (c) what mechanisms are in place to ensure business owners are not bypassing their responsibility to contribute to revenue raised by commercial vehicle registration fees?

(a)(i)-(vi) The Department of Transport (DoT) maintains a record of those vehicles that are licensed in WA.DoT does not record the number of vehicles operating in WA on a commercial basis that are licensed in other Australian jurisdictions.
(b)(i)-(vi) The cost of licensing each type of commercial vehicle in WA is set by a formula and comprises a Licence Fee, Recording Fee,  Insurance (Compulsory Third Party), GST on Insurance and Stamp Duty on Insurance.
The amount to be paid varies with the individual circumstances of the vehicle and the purpose for which it is used.
(c) Each jurisdiction's licensing agency has systems in place to track the registration of vehicles and currency of third party insurance. WA Police and Main Roads WA provide on-road enforcement of roads legislation. Regulatory action may be taken when there is evidence of non-compliance with WA licensing laws.
