TOW TRUCK INDUSTRY — Road Traffic (Vehicles)

1229. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to proposed amendments to
the Road Traffic (Vehicles) Regulations 2014 and concerns raised with me by the
heavy-vehicle towing industry about the practicality of those proposed
amendments.
(1) Has the minister met with
members of the heavy-vehicle towing industry?
(a) If yes, when?
(b) If no, why not?
(2) Is the
minister aware of concerns about the proposed changes to regulations 411, 417
and 418, and the impact on the cost of operations of the heavy vehicle towers?
(3) Is the
minister aware of concerns about proposed changes to regulations listed in (2)
and the impact on delays to removing broken-down vehicles, such as trucks and
buses, from main highways and freeways around the city and roads in the CBD?
(4) When will the amended
regulations be tabled in Parliament?

(1)–(4) The
proposed amendments to the regulations do not prevent a heavy vehicle tow truck
from undertaking towing to the nearest safe place at the direction of police or
Main Roads.
