SHARK ATTACK — PREVENTIVE MEASURES
1378. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the Leader of the
House representing the Premier:
I refer to question 1246 asked on 18
November 2014.
(1) Please table
the written authority to deploy capture gear in the event of a shark attack
that has been in place since 2009.
(2) If no to (1), what is the reason
for not tabling it?
(3) Can it be
confirmed that in 2003, as opposition leader, the current Premier called for
fisheries officers to be given authority to destroy sharks that swam close to
shore along Perth's coast?

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(2) Questions (1) and (2) should be directed to
the Minister for Fisheries.
(3) I believe
that fisheries officers should have the authority to take appropriate action in
circumstances when a shark is considered an imminent threat.
