I refer the minister to an answer he provided recently in which he advised that the Government would not support a casino being established beyond 100 kilometres of the Burswood Resort Casino, as is allowed for under the Casino Control Act. (1) What are the Government’s reasons for not allowing a regional casino in Western Australia? (2) Has the Government sought the views of the Western Australian Tourism Commission on the potential tourism benefits of a regional casino? (3) If the minister has, what are the comments from the Tourism Commission; if he has not asked the Tourism Commission, why not? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS

(1)-(3) The Leader of the Opposition has correctly stated the Government’s position. We do not want another casino. The Leader of the Opposition would be well aware of the reasons that we do not. In the light of the Government’s well-known views on the matter, it was not considered appropriate that the issue be taken further in respect of additional consultation.
