I refer to the bushfire preparedness plans of schools located in the bushfire zone, and I ask —
(1) Have all schools on the bushfire zone register prepared bushfire plans in accordance with
The Principals' Guide to Bushfire
policy?
(2) If no to (1), please identify which schools have yet to develop their bushfire plans?
(3) Have all school bushfire plans been prepared in conjunction with their relevant local government authority?
(4) Does the Department of Education hold copies of each school's
Emergency and Critical Incident Management Plan
, which should include the bushfire management plan?

(1) All but one of the schools on the Bushfire Zone Register have bushfire plans in place.
(2) Ngurrawaana Campus is currently working towards developing its bushfire emergency plan and is expected to finalise this by 23 November 2012.
(3) While it is not mandatory that schools develop their bushfire plans jointly with local government, schools are required to establish contact with emergency services, including FESA Career Fire and Rescue Services, the local volunteer fire brigade, WA Police and the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), which includes the local government authority.
The level of engagement of the school with local government varies depending on local requirements.
In addition, the Central Office of the Department of Education has been working closely with both local government authorities and FESA. This collaborative approach is to ensure that all aspects of the school bushfire plans reflect key elements of the
Emergency and Critical Incident Management
policy and
Principal's Guide to Bushfire
.
(4) Education Regional Offices hold copies of all bushfire management plans, with the exception of the three schools listed above. As soon as the three outstanding schools have finalised their bushfire management plans, these will be forwarded to the appropriate Regional Office.
