TAFE — PLACEMENTS — DRUG TESTING
974. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Training:
I refer the minister to TAFE's
work placement and industry partnership scheme here in WA.
(1) Do any of the
partner institutions with which TAFE works require students to undergo drug
testing before or during their placements?
(2) If yes to (1), what manner of
testing is required and what drugs are screened for?
(3) Is any allowance made within the testing regime
for students who have a prescription for medicinal cannabis?
(4) If no to (3),
how can a TAFE student with such a prescription appeal against a decision that
unfairly discriminates against them due to their reliance upon a legal,
properly prescribed medication?

(1) Yes.
(2) The policy of
the host employer for the work placement would determine the manner of testing
and the drugs that would be screened for.
(3) Refer to the response to (2).
(4) The policy of the host employer for the work
placement would determine the appeals policy and procedure.
