FIRST HOME OWNER GRANT SCHEME
I refer to page 92 of the Department of Treasury and Finance 2006 annual report concerning the first home owner grant scheme and the statement that of those investigated, 386 applicants were found to be eligible for the grant and 223 were either refused the grant or had to repay the grant. (1) Of those 223 applicants, how many - (a) were refused the grant; and (b) had to repay the grant? (2) Of those who had to repay the grant, how many applicants have actually done so? (3) What action has been taken against applicants who have not repaid the grant? Hon SUE ELLERY

On behalf of the parliamentary secretary, I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Treasurer provides the following answer - (1) (a) Eighty-five. (b) One hundred and thirty-eight. (2) Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to this question in the available time frame due to the need to assess the current status of each of those 138 cases. It is therefore requested that the member place this question on notice to enable us to ensure an accurate response. (3) Action taken to recover the grant from ineligible applicants includes extension of time to pay arrangements, legal action or the lodgement of a memorial over the land title to secure the debt.
