Live export—Sheep industry
124. Hon Colin de Grussa to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I refer to the
federal government's live sheep export ban and recent media reports of a
Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry draft document outlining the
expected assistance to be provided to the industry.
(1) Is the minister aware of this document and, if
so, has she been briefed on it?
(2) If yes to (1), does this document disclose
that the assistance being provided is inadequate?
(3) Has the minister or the WA government
undertaken any analysis to assess the required economic assistance to the sheep
industry during the proposed transition?
(4) If yes to (2), will the minister table this
analysis and has this analysis been provided to the federal government?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) I am aware that a draft internal
document from the federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has
been circulated. Our government has been advocating for more support for our
state's farmers throughout this process. I will continue to work with industry
and advocate on its behalf for certainty and a sustainable future for Western
Australian producers.
