SCHOOLS — ATTENDANCE
DATA
1438. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Education:
I refer to the data provided by the
Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority on the school attendance rate and the school attendance level.
For Western Australia, the school attendance level for years 7 to 10 reduced from 73.2 per cent in the first full year of a WA Labor government to
54.9 per cent in 2023. I note that it is close to the end of 2024 and ask the
following.
(1) What was the school attendance
level for years 7 to 10 for the first semester of 2024?
(2) When will the state have the
attendance level results for the full year?
(3) Why has there
been an ongoing collapse of attendance under Labor, noting that attendance has
declined for every single year that Labor has
been in power, except for an insufficient adjustment after COVID in 2022
to 2023?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The figures cited above are incorrect. They do not
relate to Western Australia. They are for the whole of Australia and all school
sectors.
(1) The 2024
semester 1 student attendance data is expected to be published by ACARA in
December 2024.
(2) Reporting of attendance data is
limited to semester 1 and reported annually.
(3) It is not
understood what the honourable member is referring to in relation to ''an
insufficient adjustment''. As such, it is not possible to provide an
answer to this question.
