To the Minister for Transport, I ask: (a) what is the anticipated increase to the costs for construction of the Karratha - Tom Price Road now that asbestos has been discovered along the section that is to be upgraded; (b) what is the time-frame for removal of all of the currently known deposits of asbestos; (c) will further investigation be undertaken along the Karratha - Tom Price Road to ensure that no further deposits of asbestos will put workers, their families and the travelling public at further danger, if so, how will this investigation be undertaken and by whom; and (d) has the Minister for Transport had any communication with the Shire of Ashburton about the State Government taking over day-to-day responsibility for the future maintenance of the Karratha - Tom Price Road, and if so, please provide copies of all correspondence?

(a) Construction costs will be finalised following the closure and assessment of Stage 3 tenders.
(b) Currently anticipated to be March 2019.
(c) A comprehensive survey of the 48 kilometre (Stage 3) section of the Karratha-Tom Price Road has been completed. Remediation works will be completed before construction commences.
(d) The previously completed Stages 1 and 2 of the Karratha Tom Price Road are managed and maintained by Main Roads WA. Similarly, Main Roads will take responsibility for Stages 3 and 4 as they are completed, which Main Roads has advised the Shire of Ashburton
