I refer to the Gas Appliance Rectification Program and the expected use of broader specification gas in 2013, and I ask —
(1) Will consumers be paying the same amount as at present for the new gas?
(2) What is the heating capacity of the new gas compared to the old gas?
(3) Will the two gas types be mixed and what is the expected impact on household appliances?
(4) Will Alinta pay the same price for the new gas as the old gas?

(1) Yes.
(2) Macedon gas, which is due to start flowing in the first half of 2013, is understood to have a minimum higher heating value of 35.3 MJ/m
3
. Prior to the introduction of the gas specifications legislation, the minimum higher heating value on the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline was 37.0 MJ/m
3
. However, Macedon gas will only comprise a small proportion of the total mix of gas delivered to consumers.
(3) Macedon gas will enter the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline inland from Onslow and will mix with the gas from the North West Shelf and Varanus Island. The mingled stream of gas that is delivered to customers in the South West is expected to have no discernable impact on household appliances.
(4) The price that Alinta pays for gas is the subject of commercial arrangements between it and a gas producer, and is therefore confidential.
