I refer the Attorney General to my request concerning email contact with Brian Burke and the Attorney General and his office and his reply dated 14 August 2007. (1) Did the Attorney General or anyone else ask the Attorney General’s ministerial office staff whether they had had email contact with Brian Burke; and, if not why not? (2) Has Phillip Lascaris ever been employed in the Attorney General’s office; and, if so, will the Attorney General provide details about his position and the period of his employment? I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Attorney General advises the following - (1) On 28 June 2007, the Attorney General’s freedom of information coordinator received the Leader of the Opposition’s freedom of information application. On 4 July 2007, the FOI coordinator sought the agreement of the Leader of the Opposition, following advice from the information technology branch of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, to narrow the scope of his freedom of information application. On the same day the Leader of the Opposition responded to the FOI coordinator and modified his application to all emails sent and received between Hon Jim McGinty, MLA, his chief of staff and Mr Brian Burke for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006. On 10 August 2007, the Attorney General advised the Leader of the Opposition that there are no emails within his freedom of information application. On receiving the initial freedom of information application, the FOI coordinator verbally asked the policy officers, media advisors and senior administration staff who were then employed in the Attorney General’s office whether they had received or sent emails to Brian Burke. All officers replied in the negative. (2) No.
