KALBARRI
700. Hon
MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for
Lands:
I refer to the McGowan government's
plans to build a multi-user workforce accommodation facility in Kalbarri.
(1) What is the expected cost of this project and what
funds, if any, has the state government allocated towards it?
(2) What is the expected time frame
for this project, including commencement date and completion date?
(3) How many beds are expected to be
provided through this project?
(4) Noting the Shire of Northampton has been
requesting state government support for workers' accommodation since June 2021, why has this critical project not been progressed until now?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the
Leader of the House, the following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Lands.
(1) The
government has made the land available for the proposal, allocated funding
towards administering the competitive process and worked with the Shire of
Northampton to progress the required rezoning under the local planning scheme.
(2)–(3) Agreement
on terms with the preferred proponent are subject to negotiation. However, the
preferred proponent's proposal indicated around 44 dwellings.
(4) The government has been working with the Shire of
Northampton to rezone the land under the local planning scheme to ensure
it can be used for the intended purpose and it has undertaken the competitive
process to identify a preferred proponent for the site. I would like to thank
the shire for its ongoing collaboration with the government as part of this
process.
