North Fremantle station—Crossing safety
120. Hon Dr Brad Pettitt to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to concerns
raised by WestCycle, the City of Fremantle and local residents in 2024 and 2025
about the hard-to-navigate and unsafe rail crossing maze at the western side of
North Fremantle train station. In October 2025, a disabled child broke their
femur navigating the maze on a cargo bike. I understand that the Minister for
Transport and the Public Transport Authority were notified of this incident in
January 2026.
(1) What is the PTA doing to address the numerous
complaints about the safety and accessibility of the rail crossing at North
Fremantle station?
(2) Will the PTA permanently remove the
fencing panel causing the pinch points so that people can pass through the
crossing more safely and easily?
(3) Noting that it was promised to be
completed in 2025, when will the PTA rationalise this crossing to enable people
to cross more efficiently and safely?
