FOREST PRODUCTS
COMMISSION — SAWLOGS
1575. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the Minister for Forestry:
I
have been advised that the Forest Products Commission has a stockpile of jarrah
logs at the Preston Chipping Company.
(1) Will these
logs be made available to timber mills for processing?
(2) If no to (2),
why not?
(3) Whose
decision at the FPC is it to stockpile sawlogs and not supply them to the
remaining sawmillers?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the Minister for
Forestry, who is out of the chamber on urgent parliamentary business.
(1)–(3) As
previously stated, any high value recovery log—sawlog—recovered
from ecological thinning or mine site clearance will be made available to
sawmills.
