450. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to Newman Hospital.
(1) Is the minister aware of reports that the roof leaks
after heavy rain?
(2) What action has the Department of Health taken to remedy
the problem?
(3) What specialist medical services are offered at the
hospital and how often are the services available?
(4) When will
the Newman community finally have the new hospital that the Liberal Party
promised at the 2013 state election?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) Yes.
(2) The WA Country Health Service issued a
work order to local contractors in Newman on 28 April 2015 and the leaks are in
the process of being assessed and repaired.
(3) The following services are available
from visiting specialist services scheduled for 2015. Four adult cardiology
one-day visits; two paediatric cardiology one-day visits; two endocrinology
one-day visits; 15 paediatrics one-day visits and three two-day visits; 25
obstetrics and gynaecology consultant one-day visits; six public health
physician one-day visits; 12 Royal Flying Doctor Service physician three-day
visits; 10 general surgeon one-day visits; five podiatrist one-day visits,
non-medical specialist; 11 dietician one-day visits, non-medical specialist;
and audiology non-medical specialist/ Earbus monthly
visits to various Pilbara sites. This information is also published and
accessible on the WACHS internet site under ZZZ### ZZZPilbara health''.
(4) The business case to inform the
redevelopment of the Newman Hospital has recently been finalised and will be
progressed as quickly as possible.
