CORONAVIRUS —
KIMBERLEY HEALTHCARE WORKERS
225. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Premier:
My question here today has been
spurred on because there are a number of people in the Kimberley, who I have
spoken to, who are concerned about the recent media reports in relation to
possible infections.
(1) Can the
Premier confirm that five healthcare workers in the Kimberley have been found
positive of the coronavirus, including at a health service hub for remote communities?
(2) Can the
Premier outline the status of contact tracing to those communities serviced by
those healthcare workers and how confident he is that there is no community
spread in those communities?

I thank the member for the
question.
(1)–(2) I can confirm that there has been a number of
people—healthcare workers—who have been found positive for COVID in the Kimberley. It may well be more than five. There is currently
work being done to get to the bottom of the
exact numbers of people. Obviously, it is very concerning because of the
vulnerability of Indigenous people, in particular, to illnesses such as COVID.
Health advised me yesterday that it was flying teams of people up to the
Kimberley to help deal with this matter, and the government will have further
announcements later on, perhaps today or tomorrow, about initiatives that we
will take to deal with this.
