(1) The comprehensive program of professional development for training practitioners consists of a series of workshops that are offered annually, a publication that has been produced and a one day Exploring Good Practice in RPL Conference which was held in December 2009. RPL was also featured at Training Forum 2009.
The workshops for practitioners held a minimum of four times each year, are attended by stakeholders from public and private training providers and focus on the implementation of a streamlined task based approach to RPL. The workshops were fully subscribed in 2009
The Department also facilitates a free RPL Community of Practice open to all RTOs and interested stakeholders four times a year, two of these meetings are online to support regional participants. Professional development is offered at the community of practice and a discussion forum allows for problem solving and sharing good practice.
The publication
Recognition of Prior Learning: An assessment resource for VET practitioners
provides information on the RPL process and promotes a streamlined task based approach to RPL. The principles of assessment and the rules of evidence as they apply to RPL are covered. The publication is available as a free download from the VETinfoNET website at
www.vetinfonet.det.wa.edu.au
Training Forum 2009 offered 5 RPL workshops to delegates and a panel discussion with industry. The Exploring Good Practice in RPL Conference in December 2009 showcased good practice in RPL with twenty-one workshops presented.
In additional, the Department has provided a suite of 67 whole of qualification assessment materials free of charge to RTOs. These assessment materials are based on the streamlined task based approach and are available from the WestOne website at
