SCHOOLS — PRINCIPAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
STUDY
945. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to increasingly complex roles for school leadership.
(1) Is the
minister aware of the findings of the principal health and wellbeing study by
Professor Philip Riley and the many benefits, including economic, of
implementing the recommendations?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister commit to implementing
the recommendations of the study?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Yes.
(2) The Department of Education has a range of
initiatives and strategies that address the recommendations. The department
provides professional learning to principals through the Institute for
Professional Learning and all principals can access professional support and
advice through the regional education offices and their school network. In
addition, the department has negotiated corporate health initiatives with
private healthcare providers and foundations that offer a range of services for
principals. In August 2015, two metropolitan forums for principals focusing on
health and wellbeing were delivered to school leaders. All school staff can
access professional support and counselling through the Employee Support
Bureau. The department supports the four principals' associations that
provide a range of services, supports and professional learning opportunities
for school leaders including health and wellbeing forums.
