(1) Commitments which are flow-ons from investments commenced in the 1999/2000 financial year are: - Renal and Diabetes Coordinated Care Strategy $160 000 - Environmental Health Worker Programs in Kimberley and Pilbara $350 000 - Addressing medical officer shortages Kimberley and Gascoyne $355 000 New investment initiatives for the 2000/01 financial year are still being planned. (2) The Kimberley Public Health Unit 2000/01 base funding allocation is: $1 539 700. As the principal causes of excess death in men in these regions are related to alcohol, injury and nutrition, the Kimberley Public Health Unit participates in the region's Road Safety Plan and is involved with Liquor Licence Accords in Derby and Halls Creek. It also conducts the following regional programs which focus on Road Safety, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease in Halls Creek, Derby and Wyndham: - Pedestrian Visibility - Road safety; - Riding in back of utilities - Road safety; - Liquor Licence staff training - Alcohol harm minimisation program; - Community Store Manager training - Diabetes prevention and control program; - Shelf Talker programs - Diabetes prevention and control program; - Canning Stock Route Challenge - Diabetes prevention and control program through physical activity participation; - Aboriginal Nutrition health worker employed in Wyndham; and - Jabby Don't Smoke -Culturally appropriate Tobacco Control message. (3) The Office of Aboriginal Health at the Health Department of Western Australia currently funds the Ngangganawili Aboriginal Medical Service, Aboriginal Corporation in Wiluna to provide a comprehensive Primary Health Care Service to the residents of the Shire of Wiluna. At this stage, the total allocated funding for the 2000/01 financial year is: $818 570.
