742. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
(1) Is the
minister aware that the Bungarun site and buildings outside Derby have been
unused for approximately two years since the Department of Corrective Services
stopped running programs there?
(2) What plans does the minister have for future use of the
site?
(3) Does the government intend to restore and develop the
current site?
(4) Is the
minister exploring opportunities to partner with other government and/or
non-government agencies to develop and restore the site?

The Aboriginal Lands Trust and the Department of Aboriginal Affairs have been
exploring options for the future use and development of the Bungarun site. In
the interim, a caretaker arrangement is currently being considered in addition
to the possibility of some maintenance work being carried out through the
Curtin detention centre.
