On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Health, I provide the following response —
(1) Professor
Derrick Bell, Professor of Acute Medicine at Imperial College London and
director of the National Institute of Health Research, North West London, has
been invited to advise the government on matters related to hospital access
block and reducing waiting times in emergency departments in metropolitan adult
tertiary hospitals.
(2) It is
anticipated that Professor Bell will visit Perth in late July to early August
2013 for approximately seven days.
(3) The cost
to the government will be for travel and accommodation only. The cost of this
has yet to be finalised. No consultancy fee will be charged for the service.
(4) The
findings of the visit will be provided to the acting director general of the
Department of Health and the Minister for Health. The government will then
decide whether the findings will be made public.
