(1) The diamond tree sky lift in Manjimup was one of the major projects under the icon expression of interest process and has been given $800 000 by the federal Government. Will the State Government put money into this project now that the furniture industry seems to be at a standstill in Manjimup? (2) If not, why not? The PRESIDENT: I remind members that phones for the use of Whips are for only urgent and immediate parliamentary business and not for the transaction of other business. They certainly should not be used to take away the floor from those who are answering or asking questions. Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) No. (2) The State Government has received a large number of requests to provide financial assistance for projects in the Warren-Blackwood region. Funds have been provided to as many projects as possible. However, the diamond tree sky lift project was not one accorded high priority. It needs to be stressed that the furniture industry is not at a standstill in the Manjimup area and the offer of financial assistance subject to strict terms and conditions to the successful purchaser of Sotico Pty Ltd’s operations is still available. I suggest that the member take up the matter with her federal colleagues who are denying money to the south west region.
