SYNERGY —
PREMIER COAL SUPPLY AGREEMENT
317. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Minister
for Energy:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that Yancoal sees fit to share this information
with the people of the entire world, why did the minister mislead Western
Australians that this was confidential?

AnswerView source ↗

As the member would know, the contract is confidential in
Western Australia. The contract was signed by Alan Carpenter, the then energy
minister, and it was repeated by the then Premier, Geoff Gallop, and it is
confidential. If Yanzhou Coal chooses to declare
something offshore, that is its choice. We abide by our contracts in Western
Australia, not China.
