CROWN LAND — FIRE MITIGATION STRATEGY
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Jon Ford, who is away on urgent parliamentary business. What is the fire mitigation strategy for crown land and the state’s conservation estate for the Gascoyne, Pilbara and the Kimberley? Hon HELEN MORTON

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for asking this question on behalf of Hon Jon Ford. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Environment. Fire risk mitigation strategies employed for crown land for which the Department of Environment and Conservation has management and responsibility for fire preparedness, including the conservation estate within the Gascoyne, Pilbara and Kimberley, are consistent with those employed in the remainder of the state. Prescribed burning to reduce combustible fuel loads is the primary fire risk mitigation strategy for private and public assets, rural communities and biodiversity values. The level of prescribed burning undertaken in any given area is generally commensurate with the range of values at risk from bushfire.
