SHARK DRUM LINE PROGRAM
853. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to the trial of the shark
drum line strategy in 2013–14.
(1) Was there any
formal public consultation process prior to the decision to implement the drum
line strategy?
(2) If yes to (1), what were the
details of that process?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) Was an advertisement placed in The West Australian seeking public
comment?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Consultation
was undertaken with a range of stakeholders through the office of the then
Minister for Fisheries during the first week of December 2013.
(2)–(3) Details
of stakeholders are contained in the public environmental review, together with
details on those stakeholders consulted following the end of the trial.
(4) No
advertisement was placed in The West
Australian prior to the trial program. An advertisement was placed in The West Australian advising of the
four-week public comment period on the PER on Monday, 9 June 2014.
