1 & 2. An analysis of possible amendments to the Local Government Act 1995 (Act) and associated regulations is currently being undertaken. Final consultation on possible legislative changes will occur shortly with appropriate amendments made in 2001. 3. The Minister for Local Government is not aware that any local government is collecting charges outside its statutory powers. Should a person be concerned that this has occurred then the person may appeal to the Land Valuation Tribual under section 6.82 of the Act. The Tribunal has the power to quash a rate or service charge that has been improperly made or imposed.
