For each Government department or agency under the Minister’s control, including the ministerial office, I ask whether media monitoring services are provided; and
(a) if yes, which firm or firms currently provide a media monitoring service;
(b) if yes, what is the cost of the contract/s;
(c) if yes, since 23 September 2008 how much has been paid for media monitoring services;
(d) if yes, what is the duration of the contract(s); and

The Department of Regional Development and Lands:
Yes
(a) The service is provided by Media Monitors through a Service Level Agreement the Department of Regional Development and Lands has with the Department of Local Government.
(b) Monthly charges are met by the Department of Local Government. The cost of relevant media monitoring services to the Department of Regional Development and Lands is estimated at $15,156.54 for the period 1 July 2009 to 31 May 2010. It should be noted that Department of Regional Development and Lands was established on 1 July 2009.

Office of the Minister for Regional Development and Lands:
(a)-(e) As of 1 January 2010 the Government Media Office ceased to operate in a move to streamline decision making and coordination across portfolios. As part of these changes responsibility for daily Media Monitoring Services for Ministers and some government agencies has been transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
LandCorp:

a) Media Monitors Pty Ltd
b) There are fixed costs per month which include the Monitoring Retainer fee of $565.95 and web hosting fee of $308.54. The average cost of the monitoring service per month is $2400.00 ex GST which includes the copyright and varies depending on the volume of coverage provided. This cost does not include variable charges such as audio, video and transcript orders. In addition, it should be noted that these costs cover the provision of the media monitoring services to both LandCorp and the Armadale Redevelopment Authority (ARA) and as such this fee cannot be individually split between LandCorp and ARA.
c) $75,689.93 has been spent since 30 September 2008 including GST.
d) The service commenced in 2002 and has been renewed on an annual basis since commencement.
e) Services commenced with Media Monitors on 1 January 2002.
