STATE BUDGET 2022–23
— ASSET MAINTENANCE FUND
612. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer to page 269 of budget paper No
3 of the 2023–24 state budget, which lists the creation of a new $250 million
asset maintenance fund as a new special purpose account.
(1) What exact assets will be
maintained by this fund?
(2) Which government departments,
trading enterprises or entities will be able to access these funds?
(3) Why are these
departments or entities not able to maintain their assets within their existing
budgets?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following
answer is provided on behalf of the Treasurer.
(1) They are
state government–owned assets, including schools, hospitals, police
stations, courts and cultural and entertainment venues.
(2) Allocations
from the asset maintenance fund are subject to future budget and midyear review
processes.
(3) The asset
maintenance fund provides an opportunity to prioritise maintenance of state
government–owned assets in addition to existing efforts.
