MEDICAL CANNABIS —
COMPASSIONATE-USE
1341. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to the New South Wales
Department of Communities and Justice's medicinal cannabis
compassionate-use scheme, where those registered with the justice department
under the scheme and suffering a terminal illness can be compassionately
allowed to possess certain amounts of illegal cannabis.
(1) Does the
Attorney General agree that terminally ill patients should not be charged when
found with a small amount of cannabis?
(2) Will the government consider
introducing such a scheme in Western Australia?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Police. The honourable
member referred to the Attorney General a few times; perhaps if she wants to ask the Attorney General a question, she might ask the question of the
Attorney General. This answer has been provided by the Minister for Police.
It is not a priority of the Cook
Labor to introduce a similar scheme in Western Australia as there are existing
laws in place regarding cannabis possession and use.
