I refer to the Labor Government’s pre-election policy ‘More Police, Better Policing’, and I ask -
(1) What specific actions has this Government taken to develop a refresher course for police officers who have left the police service and wish to re-join?
(2) What specific actions has this Government taken to ensure its policy of promoting ‘better recognition of existing competencies’ within the police service is being achieved?
(3) What specific actions has this Government taken in regard to the use of advertising to attract trained officers from interstate and overseas?
(4) How many trained officers from interstate and overseas have been recruited to the Western Australian Police Service during the financial years -
(a) 2001-02;
(b) 2002-03; and
(c) 2003-04?
(5) What specific actions has this Government taken in regard to permitting officers who have left the police service to re-join, on a temporary basis, for specific peak times?
(6) Can the Minister please provide a break-down of the employment figures on how many officers who have left the police have been allowed to re-join in specific peak times?
(7) What specific actions has this Government taken to restore patrolling as core police work?
(8) How many hours in total were spent on patrolling during the financial years -
(a) 1999-2000;
(b) 2000-01;
(c) 2001-02;
(d) 2002-03; and
(e) 2003-04?
(9) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has retained the Child Abuse Unit?
(10) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has re-established the Asian Squad?
(11) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has re-established the Sexual Assault Squad?
(12) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has re-established a Motor Dealers’ Unit within the police service?
(13) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has established a Youth Division within the police service?
(14) Can the Minister please confirm whether this Government has established a Police Board?
(15) Can the Minister please inform the House as to how the Police Board, if established, has enabled better community representation and input into the police service?
