(a) None. Deferred patients are not removed from the elective surgery waiting list.
(b) Patients can be deferred for a range of reasons including patient related reasons (eg patient crisis on day; carer of dependents unavailable), hospital related reasons (eg surgeon unavailable; theatre unavailable), the patient may be unfit for surgery, and 'other' reasons (eg change of urgency).
