Further, the brief of police was not one of protection but of being available to respond should the situation dictate that course of action. However, they have provided the following general information with respect to resources deployed during the recent visit of USS Abraham Lincoln and other associated warships. (1 – 6) Police resources were made available from Water Police, the Emergency Operations, Air Support Units and the South Metropolitan Police District. While not being specific for this particular port a plan was formulated to provide protection for these warships and to devote resources to that action if required. Water Police conducted patrols and investigation duties and were available to respond should the situation dictate. They were not required to remain on station at the warships. Emergency Operations Unit assisted in the coordination of the visit and ensured appropriate protocols were followed. Air Support Unit performed a patrol role during the arrival stage of the operation. South Metropolitan Police District performed general policing related activities.
