WORKERS ACCOMMODATION —
KALBARRI
1356. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Lands:
I refer to the minister's
media statement issued on 28 August 2023 titled ''Kalbarri Workers'
Accommodation negotiations conclude'' that stated —
The State Government has formally
withdrawn from negotiations with the proponent and will now reconsider its
options.
(1) Noting it has been more than two months since this
announcement, has the minister made any determination about the future
of the vacant Woods Street block in Kalbarri?
(2) Does the
state government still intend to make this land available for workers
accommodation?
(3) Has the state
government received a request from any proponents interested in developing
workers accommodation on this site; and, if so, please provide detail?
(4) When will the
state government honour its promise to deliver workers accommodation in
Kalbarri?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Lands.
(1)–(4) The
state government's commitment was to make suitable land available in
consultation with the local government and this commitment was delivered. The
site remains available for development of workers accommodation. The Department
of Planning, Lands and Heritage is in discussions with the Shire of Northampton
to develop the site for workers accommodation, following an approach from the
shire.
