(1) Members of the Commonwealth Parliament must consider specified eligibility criteria when providing flags through the Constituents’ Request Programme. These criteria are listed in the Senators and Members’ Entitlements handbook published by the Commonwealth Government. Members of the Commonwealth Parliament are not restricted in the number of flags they may issue, however they meet the cost for the provision of these flags from within their own office budget. In Western Australia, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet funds an allocation of up to ten flags per Member, per annum. Past practice indicates that the majority of Members do not exhaust this allocation.
(2) In line with many other jurisdictions in Australia, there are eligibility criteria Members of the Western Australian Parliament must consider when providing flags to constituents through the State Flag allocation scheme.
