INFRASTRUCTURE WESTERN
AUSTRALIA
950. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Is
the Premier stalling the introduction of the bill so his government can ram
through the Beeliar wetlands legislation without an independent assessment on
how it may impact on freight access to port infrastructure in the future?

That is a bizarre analysis of the
role of Infrastructure Western Australia. The role of Infrastructure Western Australia
would be to provide advice to government on prospective infrastructure
projects. It is odd that a member of the National Party would criticise us for
cancelling a project, securing $1.2 billion from the federal government and

Mr V.A. Catania : The theme is
running all right!
The SPEAKER : You might be
running home early! I call you to order for the first time, member for North West
Central. Members, you have asked a question. I am enjoying the answer and I am
sure you will too if you are quiet.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The cancellation of that project and
the renegotiation of the money coming to Western Australia, undertaken by the
Minister for Transport and myself, with the former Prime Minister, means that
we have —

Mr M. McGOWAN : —
means that we have been able to fund a whole range of other projects all over Western
Australia, including in the regions. So it probably makes sense that the member
for North West Central is in favour of metropolitan road projects, because that
is where he lives.
