ROAD SAFETY — PORTFOLIO ALLOCATION
706. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's
decision to move the portfolio of road safety from the Minister for Police to
the Minister Assisting the Minister for
Transport's care. Given the growing concern over road safety, which
many believe requires a police response rather than oversight from a portfolio
focused on ports and trains, does the Premier accept that this decision may not
have been in the best interests of Western Australia and will he reconsider the
portfolio's ministerial allocation?

The Minister for Road Safety is
doing an outstanding job making sure that we have the policies, resources and
programs in place to make sure that we can all play our role in overseeing and
improving road safety. I simply refer the member to the fact that under my
government we have 660 more police on the beat today than when we were elected.
Today there is a record number of police officers, more than 7 200, in fact
over 800 more than when we first came into government in 2017. Not only is the
Minister for Road Safety doing a great job, but so is the Minister for Police.
