Road safety—Seatbelt infringements—AI cameras
95. Hon Philip Scott to
the minister representing the Minister
Assisting the Minister for Transport:
In light of a
recently reported Queensland magistrate's decision to dismiss an AI-detected
seatbelt fine, I ask the following questions.
(1) How many fines have been issued by AI
cameras for passengers incorrectly wearing a seatbelt in WA that are currently
being appealed?
(2) How many fines of this nature have
been issued by AI cameras but successfully overturned since their
implementation in WA?
(3) Given the level of community
backlash, will the government review the use of AI cameras in detecting
passenger seatbelt infringements?
