ALCOA — APPEALS CONVENOR
796. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Environment:
I
note that Alcoa has shut down its refining operations in Kwinana, resulting in
considerable job losses whilst dealing with extended part IV appeals on
its request for access to new and higher grade resources.
(1) When does the
minister expect the Appeals Convenor to provide a recommendation on the current
appeal, which is holding up Alcoa's expansion?
(2) On what date were the appeals
lodged?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. For the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Environment, I provide the following answer on behalf of the
Minister for Environment.
(1)–(2) There is currently only one active appeal into an
Alcoa site, appeal 013–24, which was lodged in relation to the licence
amendment on 13 March 2024. The appeal relates to activities at the Willowdale
facility and the amendment of licence L6465/1989/10, and is not likely
to relate to the Kwinana facility mentioned above.
