I refer to the opening of the rail station at Thornlie and the minister’s self-congratulatory question and answer last week. (1) Is she aware of the widespread dissatisfaction amongst public transport users in the Thornlie district about changes to bus routes and timetables, in particular the withdrawal of the 723 service to Perth and the lack of connection between other bus services? (2) What action will she take to improve services for these commuters and will she reinstate the 723 service? Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN

(1)-(2) Whenever there is change there will be people who feel they have been disadvantaged by it. It may well be, as happened with the introduction of the northern suburbs rail line, that some people would have preferred to continue to have buses. The overwhelming majority of the community is immensely excited by the new rail link. We will not be deterred by the opposition and its obsession with buses as an alternative to trains from continuing to roll out first-class public transport infrastructure. I will look at the issue the member raised, but certainly our feedback has been overwhelmingly in the opposite direction.
