(a)-(b) The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) is continuing to monitor the Regional Resource Recovery Centre in Canning Vale and has requested the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) to improve the facility to reduce odours. DEC officers are continuing to respond to odour complaints from the community by attending the facility and surrounding suburbs and monitoring odour levels.
The Department of Health has directed the SMRC to complete a Health Risk Assessment for the facility. The results will be made available to DEC and will help determine future action.
