WEST
AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL COMMISSION — BURSWOOD STADIUM
211. Mr P.B. WATSON to the Minister for
Sport and Recreation:
I have a supplementary question. If
the West Australian Football Commission does not operate the new stadium, will
the minister guarantee that the current revenue levels that the commission gets
from running the stadium will be passed on to not only the Western Australian
Football League, but also all grassroots football, including football in the
regions?

I will tell the member for Albany
what I will guarantee: in my time in football, in my time as a politician and
in my time as Minister for Sport and Recreation, we really have made sure that
grassroots sport, not just football, has received more —
Mr
P.B. Watson : Will you guarantee?
Mr T.K. WALDRON : I
will not make guarantees because football is a business and situations can
change. I actually see —
Mr P.B. Watson interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Albany, I call you to order for the second time. I do not want you
drowning out the minister.
Mr T.K. WALDRON :
We work really closely with football and with the joint football working group.
It came with us when we looked at stadiums; it is a huge part of this new stadium.
As I said, the new stadium provides a great opportunity for not only football,
but also other sports. I am sure that under the leadership of the WA Football
Commission, which has done a great job for football in Western Australia,
football will capitalise on the new stadium. We will work with football and
make sure that football is able to continue to deliver to not only the elite
level, but also grassroots clubs right across Western Australia.
