Resources purchased with the additional funding is being made available to public libraries in Local Governments that currently have stock levels that are below 1.25 items per capita. In consultation with the Western Australian Local Government Association and the Western Australian Local Government Librarians Association, the program to purchase and supply additional stock commenced in March 2002. Purchasing will be spread across four years with allocations generally made on a six-monthly basis. Two Local Governments in the North West of the State, the Shires of Derby - West Kimberley and Wyndham - East Kimberley will be recipients of additional stock. The Shire of Derby – West Kimberley received allocations totaling $34,517 over 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 as their share of the 'standard' funding while the Shire of Wyndham – East Kimberley received allocations totaling $32,062 over the same period. Their additional funding allocations to the end of this year total $4,578 and $6,750 respectively. It is expected that they will receive further allocations during the two out years.
