I thank Hon Dr Steve Thomas for some
notice of the question. Honourable member, my answers are provided in parts (1)
to (6), but hopefully they cover all the components about which the member
asked. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
Western Australia Police Force advises the following.
(1) Yes.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) The nature of the altercation related to a female
patron allegedly yelling at an Asian male about coronavirus. A scuffle ensued, but according to attending
police, no injuries were sustained by the Asian male involved, who left the scene prior to being spoken to by
police. The female patron's boyfriend attempted to intervene by
physically positioning himself between the two and was struck by his
girlfriend, sustaining a minor injury to his face.
(4) In the
absence of a complaint, attending police captured all the details of persons
still in the area, including the female who allegedly instigated the incident.
A witness who filmed the event provided footage to police via the public portal
of the WA Police Force digital evidence management system.
(5) Police consider
there is no direct evidence that this was racially motivated.
(6) No charges were laid as no complaint was
forthcoming and the unknown potential complainant left the scene.
